Transportation of mining trucks
Project Overview
In early 2021, we completed a major heavy haul project, transporting Caterpillar 793 mine trucks from Piteå Port in Sweden to the Kaunisvaara Mine in Pajala, Finland. The project involved eight massive loads and took approximately two months to complete. Each transport required careful planning, specialized knowledge, and the use of heavy-duty equipment to ensure safety and efficiency, particularly in winter conditions.
Transport Challenges and Solutions
Due to the significant weight and width of the trucks, they were transported without wheels or beds to reduce load weight and allow safe passage over bridges and narrow road sections. Every truck’s weight distribution and balance were carefully calculated to guarantee safe loading and transit.
Route Planning and Safety Measures
The route was meticulously planned in collaboration with road authorities. Key measures included:
-
Winter traction management
-
Bridge and road capacity checks
-
Traffic arrangements for uninterrupted and safe transport
These precautions ensured that all trucks were delivered on schedule and in excellent condition, demonstrating our reliability and expertise in heavy machinery transportation.
Repeat Assignment – Returning Trucks to Kaunisvaara
A few years later, we were tasked with transporting the same trucks back from Sodankylä to the Kaunisvaara Mine. This repeat assignment further emphasizes our capability to handle multi-stage and demanding transports efficiently, safely, and on time.
Expertise in Heavy Equipment Transport
Projects like this showcase our expertise in transporting heavy mining equipment across challenging conditions. Careful planning, professional use of equipment, and close cooperation with the client ensure that even the heaviest loads reach their destination safely and without delays.
