Transporting Mining Trucks in Winter Conditions

At the beginning of 2021, Kuljetus Koivisto carried out a significant transport project in which a total of eight mining trucks were transported from the port of Piteå in Sweden to the Kaunisvaara mine in Pajala. The transports lasted approximately two months and required careful planning and expertise in winter conditions.

The vehicles were heavy mining machines, used to carry earth and materials within the mine. Each truck weighed 75 tonnes, with a width of 6 meters and a height of 5 meters, making the transport particularly challenging over long distances and on slippery winter roads. Due to the exceptionally long route, the load could not be transported directly, so the route was carefully planned. Winter conditions imposed additional requirements, and every part of the transport process was mapped in advance to ensure safety and efficiency.

The project utilized Kuljetus Koivisto’s own escort vehicles and involved close cooperation with road authorities to manage slippery conditions. Route studies and meticulous planning ensured safe transport under all circumstances. The transports were completed on schedule and smoothly, and the customer received the mining trucks at the mine without difficulty. The project’s success reinforced Kuljetus Koivisto’s position as a reliable and skilled partner for transporting heavy mining machinery.

Such transports are almost a weekly activity for us, but each project requires careful planning and professional expertise to ensure that heavy loads reach their destination safely, even in challenging conditions.
