Transport of Lock Gates to the Saimaa Canal
During 2018 and 2019, we carried out the transport of new lock gates to the Saimaa Canal in two phases. These transports were part of our ongoing projects and required careful planning and expertise in heavy haulage.
A total of 14 loads of lock gates were transported, each 8 meters wide and weighing between 50 and 70 tonnes. The route covered approximately 700 kilometers, and a special challenge was that some of the loads had to be transported into Russia, which required extensive coordination and permits with the authorities.
The main challenges were the significant width and weight of the lock gates, as well as the international transport into Russia, which demanded thorough permit arrangements and close cooperation with authorities.
We transported the lock gates two loads at a time using 6- and 8-axle trailers, ensuring both efficiency and safety. Careful planning and the use of appropriate equipment allowed us to deliver all loads safely and on schedule, despite the challenging conditions.
